Delaware, OH — Downbytheseaside fillies won all four $20,000 divisions of the fifth leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series for freshman filly pacers on Sunday (Sept. 14) in the 20-race card on the opening day of the Delaware County Fair meet in Delaware, Ohio.
Odds On Dividend (Luke Hanners) posted the fastest mile among that quartet, leading wire to wire in the third division and winning by seven lengths in 1:54.1. She recorded fractions of :28.1, :57, and 1:25 en route to her first career win. Mandaloun (Chris Page) was second followed by Twin B Malibu (Jason Beattie) in third. Odds On Dividend is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. for owner Odds On Racing and has $32,000 in earnings.
Hanners also drove Morgan Jr. trainee Jamie Amanda to victory in the fourth division in a lifetime-best 1:55. Jamie Amanda was in third place past the first two calls with fractions of :27.1 and :56.4 and was fourth at the 1:25.3 three-quarters before rallying to win by a half-length over Vh Goldie (David Young II) with Cruzin To the Pier (Dan Noble) in third. Jamie Amanda’s victory was her second in the BSS this season, joining her first-leg win in 1:56.4. She has three wins and one second in six seasonal starts with $31,000 in earnings. She is owned by Let It Ride Stables, Odds On Racing, and Morgan Jr.
Blood Queen (Kayne Kauffman) won the second division in 1:55.2. She led wire to wire, posting fractions of :27.2, :56.3, and 1:25.3 and won by a length over Lil Miss Sureshot (Jeff Nisonger) with Tippin Tequila (Trevor Smith) in third. Blood Queen is trained by Ryan Miller for owners Miller Racing Stable, REDRACER, and Melinda Hayes. She has two wins in four starts this season and increased her earnings to $17,500.
In the first division, Seaside Angel (Noble) scored her second BSS win of the season, crossing the line in 1:55.2. Her other BSS win came in the second leg in 1:55.1. Gothic (Austin Hanners) led the field past the first three calls in :27.2, :56.4, and 1:26.3. In fourth place at the quarter pole, Seaside Angel moved first up going to the halfway mark and pulled within a head of Gothic entering the final stretch. The Ron Steck trainee pulled away to win by a length over Foolish Beetrayal (Sam Widger) with Gothic in third. Seaside Angel has three wins in five seasonal starts and $30,000 in earnings. She is owned by Bootville Stables and Steck.
Delaware also hosted four Ohio Fair Racing Conference races for freshman filly pacers on Sunday.
Twoplustwo (L. Hanners) rallied from fifth place at the three-quarter mark to win the first division. Mt Camas (Emanuel Miller) led past each of the first three calls with fractions of :28, :58.2, and 1:26.4. Trailing the leader by four lengths at the three-quarter pole, Twoplustwo used a late surge in the passing lane to edge Mt Camas by a head. Girl Anna Cash (Tyler Smith) was third. The top three finishers all tripped the wire in 1:56.3. That marked a lifetime best for Twoplustwo, who won as a 34-1 longshot and paid $70.20 to win. The Catch The Fire filly is trained by Bret Schwartz. She has hit the board in 10 of 13 starts with two wins and $14,303 in earnings.
She’safirewoman (L. Hanners), a winner in all five legs of the Ohio Sires Stakes this season, won the second division by 11 lengths in 1:54.3. The Catch The Fire filly led wire to wire, posting fractions of :28.3, :58.3, and 1:28. Katie’s On Fire (Josiah Miller) was second followed by Squaawww (Curtis Harper) in third. Trained by Mark Winters, She’safirewoman has hit the board in all nine starts this season with eight wins and one second and has $171,576 in earnings.
Its Nacho Turn (Andre Nared) edged Racing Artist (Nisonger) by a neck to win the third division in 1:55. Yankee Moonlight (Ed Konrad) was third. Racing Artist led at the quarter pole in :27.3 and was in front at the next two calls in fractions of :56.4 and 1:25.4. Racing Artist and Its Nacho Turn had pulled away from the rest of the field entering the final stretch as the pair raced to the finish line. Its Nacho Turn is a Summa Cum Laude filly trained by Todd Luther. She has eight wins in 13 seasonal starts with $25,922 in earnings.
In the final race of the day, I’ll Be Home First (Justin Irvine) took a wire-to-wire victory in the fourth division in a lifetime-best 1:57.4. The Don Irvine Jr. trainee won by three-quarters of a length over She’s So Fast (Hank LeVan) in second followed by Wine After Whiskey (L. Hanners) in third. The Summa Cum Laude filly has hit the board in all 11 seasonal starts with five wins and $27,249 in earnings.
The five-day Delaware County Fair meet continues Monday (Sept. 15) with a 19-race card starting at 1 p.m. The card includes seven $20,000 divisions of the fifth leg of the BSS – three divisions for sophomore filly trotters and four divisions for freshman filly trotters.
