Dayton, OH — The father-son training and driving duo of Jeff and Tyler Smith have gone back-to-back in consecutive weeks by winning the $28,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace on Thursday (Oct. 2) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.
Dragon By The Sea was hustled off the wings of the starting gate, clearing the field of six before the opening quarter in :26.3.
Smith was able to get his mare a :28.1 breather during the second quarter and tripped the three-quarter mile timer in 1:22.2.
Fearless Ginger (Chris Page) applied pressure coming first-over and closed the gap to three-quarters of a length at the wire in 1:50.2.
Hey Hey Momma (Luke Hanners) was another three-quarters of a length back in third; Odds On Cinamon was fourth.

Dragon By The Sea scored her sixth win of the season and the 20th of her career. The 5-year-old Downbytheseaside mare is owned by John Van Horn.
In the $18,000 conditioned claiming pace for fillies and mares, Suprize Me Went (Jeremy Smith) snuck up the passing lane to take the win in 1:50.3.
Despite having the rail, Suprize Me Went found herself in fourth at the opening quarter in :26.3.
Plays In The Shade (Austin Hanners) was unable to find an early spot on the rail and was forced to go the long mile.
Beckoning Yankee (Tyler Smith) led past the next two stations in :54.4 and 1:22.2.
Real Star (Trevor Smith) advanced on the rail and found herself second around the final turn.
Beckoning Yankee found herself sandwiched between the two-prong attack from Real Star on the outside and Suprize Me Went on the inside.
Suprize Me Went was able to stick a head in front to defeat Real Star. The tiring leader held on for third.
The 4-year-daughter of JK Endofanera is owned by trainer Chris McGuire.
Jeremy Smith recorded a grand slam on the 14-race card.
