A request from Rosecroft Raceway for 60 live racing programs in 2026 was approved by the Maryland Racing Commission at its Oct. 8 meeting.
The winter meet (January through March) will offer 21 programs on Mondays and Thursdays. There will be 13 programs during the spring meet (April and May). There will be no live racing on two Mondays -May 4 and May 11 – but two Saturday cards will be held May 2 and May 16 in conjunction with the Triple Crown races.
The standard first post time at Rosecroft is 7:15 p.m.
That leaves 26 programs for the fall meet (September through December). As usual, Rosecroft will be open for simulcast wagering 363 days and nights in 2026.
In an update at the MRC meeting, Lisa Watts, the track’s general manager and director of operations, said wagering on the Rosecroft export signal was up 20% since the fall meet began Sept. 15, while on-track pari-mutuel handle was down slightly.
Rosecroft was the first track in Maryland to submit a dates request for next year. The deadline is Nov. 30, though the others are expected to do so at the November MRC meeting earlier in the month.
Chris Merz, executive director of the racing commission, provided an update on a three-state effort to harmonize Standardbred medication rules. He said representatives from Delaware, Maryland and Virginia have agreed on a timeline and are now reviewing rules in each state.
When the review is completed, each state will offer input, and the goal is to have uniformity in the neighboring states within the next six months.
