Harrisburg, PA – The yearling portion of the 87th annual Standardbred Horse Sale concluded Wednesday at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex, where trotting colt Custom Content sold for $130,000 to Noel Daley to lead the day’s activities.
Custom Content was one of three yearlings to sell for six figures on Wednesday. The other two both sold for $100,000 – pacing colt Bacchus Blue Chip to Burke Racing Stable and trotting colt Neck Beads to Steve Elliott.
The yearling portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale overall for its three days saw 864 yearlings pass through the auction ring for a total of $36.03 million, an average of $41,701. Last year, the sale totaled almost $37.1 million, an average of $42,830.
Compared to 2024, this year was down 2.86 percent in gross and 2.63 percent in average, but the average rebounded significantly after being down nearly 13.2 percent after the opening session on Monday.
The third session this year totaled $5.43 million for 323 yearlings, an average of $16,830. Last year’s third session totaled $5.56 million for 337 yearlings, an average of $16,499.
Custom Content, a son of Cantab Hall-Custom Model, is a half-brother to millionaire Custom Cantab. The colt was bred by Nina Todorov Gueorguieva and consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency. He is Pennsylvania and Kentucky eligible.
Bacchus Blue Chip is a son of American Ideal-Sunnynseventyfive. The colt was bred by Blue Chip Bloodstock and consigned by Blue Chip Farms. He is New York and Massachusetts eligible.
Neck Beads, a son of first-crop sire Back Of The Neck out of Pay For Soup. He is New York and Kentucky eligible. The colt was bred by Order By Stable AB and consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing as agent for owner Joni Hostetler.
Two trotting sires topped six figures in average, with Chapter Seven leading the way at $173,864 for 22 yearlings. Walner was next, with an average of $132,565 for 23 yearlings.
Trotters overall averaged $48,965 for 397 horses. Fillies averaged $57,109 for 175 horses and colts averaged $42,706 for 221 horses.
Downbytheseaside led pacing sires in average at $88,364 for 11 yearlings. Captaintreacherous was next, with an average of $71,905 for 42 yearlings.
Pacers overall averaged $35,527 for 467 horses. Colts averaged $39,063 for 238 horses and fillies averaged $31,852 for 229 horses.
The Standardbred Horse Sale’s two-day mixed sale gets underway Thursday and continues Friday. Both sessions begin at 11 a.m.
