Fort Washington, MD – A crafty steer from Justin Walters propelled A Major Attitude from last to first in Monday’s (Nov. 10) $12,000 Open Pace at Rosecroft Raceway.
After getting away last in the six-horse field as Rebellious (driven by William Carter) and Leonard’s Legacy (Tim Deaton) dueled through a :26.2 first quarter, Walters angled A Major Attitude into a live third-over tow heading to the :55.3 half. Rebellious braced for and repelled a first-over bid from R N B Band (Russell Foster) past three-quarters in 1:22.3, and as the outer tier stalled, Walters dove to the inside with A Major Attitude before the eighth pole, setting the 5-year-old Captaintreacherous-Fine China gelding up for his winning move up the open stretch to defeat Leonard’s Legacy by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:52. Rebellious was a beaten third.
Howard Birney owns and trains 13-time winner A Major Attitude, who paid $5.20 to win as the 8-5 co-favorite.
Lucas Myers led all drivers with three wins on the 13-race card.
When live harness racing returns to Rosecroft on Thursday (Nov. 13), there will be a $350.97 carryover in the Jackpot Hi-5, offered in race 10. First post for the 13-race card is 7:15 p.m. (EST).
