Dover, DE – Ragtime Red wins back to back races in the Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday (Dec. 17) night.
It was a three horse scramble for early race position approaching the quarter-pole. Jett Propelled glided into the pocket and the 2/5 betting favorite Huntress retreated to third along the pylons.
Huntress was parked to the opening quarter in :26.4 and grabbed the early lead. The aged pacing mare continued on an uncontested lead at the half in :55.2, a :28.3 split. Ragtime Red angled to the outside first-over from third racing up the backstretch. Racin Hungry countered with a second-over trip. Factory Girl joined the fight third-over. Jett Propelled waited in the pocket for a chance to attack.
The rivalry was on. Huntress, the aged pacing mare and Ragtime Red the filly matched strides to the three-quarters in 1:23.2, a :28 flat quarter. Ragtime Red powered to the lead into the lane and drew off to win by a length and a quarter, pacing the mile in 1:51.2. She paid $2.80 for the win.
Jett Propelled finished second and Huntress, who cut the fractions finished third. Ragtime Red (Getitoffyourchest) is owned and was bred by David L. Banks of Dagsboro, Delaware. Don Brittingham trained and Tim Tetrick drove.
Tim Tetrick drove seven winners on the betting card on Tuesday night.
Thursday’s featured eighth race is the $110,000 DSBF Final for Three-Year Old Colt and Gelding Pacers. Thursday will be the final night of live racing before the traditional Christmas break. Live harness racing will return on Monday (Dec. 29).
