Freehold, NJ – On Feb. 15, the Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of New Jersey (SPHO-NJ) hosted its annual year-end awards banquet in Freehold, N.J. The event brought together Standardbred enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate a remarkable 2025 show season and to highlight the breed’s exceptional versatility across a wide range of disciplines.
Each year, SPHO-NJ recognizes members who submit their show placings throughout the season with trophies, ribbons, and special awards. The evening’s festivities included dinner and dancing, raffles, and a photobooth featuring a step-and-repeat backdrop generously sponsored by the Hambletonian Society.

Among the evening’s standout achievements, MMXX Standardbreds had an exceptional year with their rookie show horse, world champion trotter Homicide Hunter. The pair earned the Overall High Point Horse Award. Their impressive group of retrained Standardbreds also captured honors across numerous divisions, underscoring the success of dedicated retraining programs.
These accomplishments serve as powerful reminders that Standardbreds with distinguished racing careers can successfully transition into competitive and rewarding second careers in the show ring.
Another highlight of the evening was Weisenheimer, a true warhorse who raced for 12 consecutive years and earned High Point honors in Intro Level Western Dressage.
Nadia Sherman was awarded Overall High Point Exhibitor, recognizing her outstanding accomplishments while managing and competing a contingent of Standardbreds.
The banquet welcomed 140 guests, reflecting the strong and growing commitment within the Standardbred community. A particularly encouraging sight was the large group of young riders in attendance — the next generation who will continue advancing SPHO-NJ’s mission: To showcase to the broader equestrian world the versatility, talent, and heart of the Standardbred horse.
SPHO-NJ membership is open to all who love Standardbreds, regardless of location. Our Year-End Awards Program is available to anyone who competes with a Standardbred, making it a wonderful way for owners and riders nationwide to be recognized for their accomplishments.
