At the Agnano track in Naples, the 3-year-old Italian colt, Ice Gio, driven by Antonio di Nardo, won in 1:55.2f, making him the fastest 3-year-old in the world so far in 2026.
Until Ice Gio’s record-breaking race on Tuesday afternoon (March 17), Emmett Hanover (sired by Greenshoe) was the world’s fastest, having won at The Meadows in 1:55.4f on Feb. 18.
Ice Gio, trained by Alessandro Gocciadoro, is sired by the French stallion Face Time Bourbon and out of the American mare Doris Deo. He has now started five times and won three races.
Doris Deo, originally named Doris Hanover (she is a full sister to, among others, Donato Hanover), was sold as a yearling for $140,000 and went directly to broodmare duty at Deo Volente Farm.
Her first and best offspring is Maximus Deo (sired by Muscles Yankee) 1:54.4 – $151,619.
At a mixed sale in Lexington in 2020, Doris Deo, in foal to Muscle Hill, was sold to Italian Scuderia Bivans for $50,000.
Her first Italian foal is the mare Frenesia Gio (sired by Muscle Hill) 1:58.2f – €15,269.
Since then, Doris Deo has had three colts: Ginger Geo (sired by Tony Gio) 1:56.2f – €67,045, Ice Gio (sired by Face Time Bourbon) 1:55.2f – €30,556, and Latin Love Gio (sired by Face Time Bourbon).
