Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association (PHRA) is sharing key event dates for horse racing fans across the Commonwealth. With hundreds of race days at six tracks, the PHRA has pulled together a few highlights that will have fans in for the ride of their life. Many events include family-friendly activities, freebies, live music, food and beverage specials, and more.
Key event dates across the state are outlined below:
- Super Sunday at Harrah’s Philadelphia Racetrack in Chester – Sunday, May 24
- Fans can look forward to witnessing the highly anticipated Maxie Lee Trot, the Joseph Auger Memorial Pace, and the Betsy Ross Mares Pace – all Grade 3 stakes – on Super Sunday at Harrah’s Philadelphia Racetrack.
- Penn Mile at Penn National Racecourse in Grantville – Friday, May 29
- Penn National Racecourse’s signature event features a Grade 3 Thoroughbred race for 3-year olds, carrying a purse of $400,000. Other notable stakes races of the night will include the $75,000 Lyphard Stakes and $75,000 Alphabet Soup Handicap.
- PA Day at the Races at Parx Racing in Bensalem – Saturday, July 18
- A special event at Parx Racing spotlighting Pennsylvania’s robust breeding industry, PA Day at the Races boasts a dedicated slate of thoroughbred stakes races featuring only Pennsylvania-bred horses.
- Delvin Miller Adios Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows in Washington – Saturday, July 25
- This Grade 1 stakes event for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers is the largest at The Meadows all year as well as one of the biggest harness races in Pennsylvania.
- Sun Stakes Saturday at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre – Saturday, August 22
- With more than $2 million in purses, Sun Stakes Saturday at Mohegan Pennsylvania is one of the richest days in harness racing. Events throughout the day include graded stakes for 3-year-old pacers and trotters as well as the Sebastian K Invitational and Always B Miki Invitational for older horses.
- Masters Stakes at Presque Isle Downs in Erie – Friday, September 18
- One of the biggest Thoroughbred race days in Erie includes the $150,000 Presque Isle Mile for 3-year-olds and up and $300,000 Grade 2 Presque Isle Masters stakes for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up. The Masters is a key prep race for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships taking place in Lexington, KY this fall.
- PA Derby at Parx Racing in Bensalem – Saturday, September 19
- Another major day in Pennsylvania Thoroughbred racing. Two of the day’s featured races, the Pennsylvania Derby and the Cotillion Stakes, are each $1 million Grade 1 stakes races that typically serve as a showcase for high-caliber 3-year-old Thoroughbreds seeking to secure a spot in the Breeders’ Cup World Championship in November. The Grade 2 Gallant Bob, a $400,000 stakes race for 3-year olds, is another feature of the event.
