Xenia, OH – Richard William “Dick” Geyer, age 73, passed away on April 20, 2026 after an arduous battle with cancer.

Dick was born on June 30, 1952 in Xenia, Ohio to Robert W. and Betty N. Geyer, who preceded him in death. He is survived by brothers Ron (Renee) and Bob (Kathy) Geyer, niece and nephews: Dawn (Chris) Coleman (their children: Anniston and Emmie), Richie (Krystal) Geyer, Greg Geyer and Ryan Geyer; his lifelong best friend, Joe Fankell and his friends and colleagues at the Greene County Fairgrounds and horse barns all over Ohio.
Dick lived a well-traveled life before settling back in his hometown of Xenia, Ohio. He had a love and passion for horses and harness racing. Growing up in a family of horse owners instilled his passion at an early age and it continued throughout the very last days of his life.

Dick graduated from Xenia High School, Class of 1970. He earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Clark State College. Dick worked as the Assistant Master Greenskeeper at the prestigious Corning Country Club in NY for the Women’s PGA tour, before becoming the Head Greenskeeper at a corporate golf club in Hawaii. He was exceptionally well regarded in the field. It was, however, his adventures with horses that led to some of his fondest memories. Dick was never without a story—sometimes so extravagant that you would question its validity until he heralded you with details not even the most prolific fiction writer could conjure up. It was nothing to be talking to Dick about his time in the horse industry for him to casually drop into conversation the story about how he met the Queen of England—twice. Despite an occasionally gruff and teasing behavior, Dick was soft on the inside and loyal to his family and friends.
He adored animals and regularly adopted cats he would pretend not to fawn over. Dick had a passion for sports, especially football. He was very supportive of the Xenia Bucs football program, being a former assistant coach, shortly after he graduated.
Before his health declined, Dick was a dedicated employee of McColaugh Massie Funeral Home, where he also had many friends.
Celebration of Life will be held 11:30 AM Wednesday, May 6th at McColaugh Massie Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday until the time of service. He will be interred with his parents at Woodland Cemetery, Xenia.
