Fort Washington, MD — Victor Laszlo sat just off the pace before blitzing track record holder College Tuition on the far turn and emerging a 3-3/4-length winner in Thursday’s (May 14) $12,000 Open Handicap Trot at Rosecroft Raceway.
After sitting third behind early fractions of :26.3 and :56.2, Eric Davis angled Victor Laszlo first-over with three-eighths of the one-mile journey remaining, and the 5-year-old Chapter Seven-Sianna Hanover entire stuck his head in front of early leader College Tuition (driven by Russell Foster) just past the 1:24.2 three-quarter split. The pair dueled through the far turn before Victor Laszlo sped away in the stretch for a 1:54.1 score. College Tuition finished an isolated second; Deadline Hall (Jonathan Roberts) rallied belatedly for third.
Trainer Janet Davis co-owns Victor Laszlo, who paid $2.40 to win as the 1-5 favorite, with Tamara Williams.
Shane Griffith led all drivers with a hat trick on the 13-race card. The 20-year-old Delaware native partnered with trainer Ronald Short to win with Coach Cooley (1:58, $8) and Big Mama’s Bet (1:54.1, $5.60) before driving Badditude ($2.60) to an 11-1/4-length, 1:53.2 victory for trainer Dylan George.
Janet Davis, Short and George all had two training wins apiece.
The 2026 winter-spring harness racing meet at Rosecroft concludes Saturday (May 16) with a 10-race card and a $1,294.67 carryover in the Jackpot Hi-5, offered in the final race. First post is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. (EDT).
