Vernon, NY – Natameri (Jeff Gregory) captures the featured $8,500 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Friday (May 29).

Natameri ($2.70) went to the front and led to the quarter in :26.2. Triple Sevens (Leon Bailey) then took over heading down the backstretch and was first to the half in :55.4. Merrow (Chris Long) came first-up heading to the final turn. The two battled all the way around the turn. Triple Sevens had a short lead to three quarters in 1:24.0.
As they reached the stretch Natameri made his move slipping in between rivals to win in 1:51.3. Triple Sevens held on for second. Merrow had to settle for third money.
Natameri is an 8-year-old horse by American Ideal. He is owned by Purple Haze Stables and trained by Jessic Okusko. It was his second win this season. He now has 33 career trips to the winner’s circle.
Jeff Gregory and Leon Bailey each drove three winners on the card. Frank Affrunti had a driving double. Jessica Okusko had a training double.Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (May 30) with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
