Nichols, NY — Enola (Mike Merton) won the $16,500 featured Open Trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday (July 11).
Enola ($6.44) scrambled to the front and led to the quarter in :27.2. She got immediate pressure from Stmikes Kerryblues (Dan Harvey). They battled all the way to the half. Enola got there first in :56.2. She led to three-quarters in 1:25.2.
As they made the turn for home, second-place finisher Purple Lord (Jim Pantaleano) and Enola went shoulder to shoulder into the stretch. Enola dug in and got there first in 1:54.1. Special Mission (Dan Daley) finished third.
Enola is a 6-year-old mare by Resolve. She is owned by Go For Glory Stable and trained by Rob Harmon. It was her sixth win this season. She now has 22 career victories.
Braxten Boyd and Mike Merton had driving grand slams. Boyd was first with Rocket Man Hill, Poker Play, B Eyelash and Bo Silas. Mike Merton got his other wins with Northern Chancellor, Pine Bush Miracle and Resolved.
Darrin Monti and Rob Harmon had training doubles.
