Monticello, NY – Monticello Raceway hosted two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for 3-year-old filly pacers on Monday (July 13).
The first division had six starters vying for $59,100. The action saw Existential make a break going to the first quarter as Liberty Style (driven by Jason Bartlett) took the lead from Savage Cindy (Jordan Stratton) past the first split in :27.4. The field was single file to the half in 57. Down the backside, Two Twenty Swift (Jim Taggart Jr.) mounted a charge and briefly challenged the leaders, as they hit the next panel in 1:25.3.
Turning for home Savage Cindy angled off the rail taking aim at the leader but to no avail as Liberty Style won by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:53. Savage Cindy was second followed by Ideal Beauty Queen (Braxten Boyd).
Liberty Style, a daughter of American Ideal-Fly In Style, sports a perfect slate with her third Sire Stakes win on the year for trainer Andrew Stafford.
The second heat was a five-horse field going for $58,000. Surreal Spirit (Jeff Gregory) was sent off as the favorite. Odds On Monetary (Matt Kakaley), from post 2, was first to the front in an opening split of :27.4, with a gappy pack behind her. The pack was still stretched out at the next panel in :56.2, then tightened up a bit in the third turn. Odds On Monetary still showed the way turning for home, and she cruised to a 1:53.1 score. Surreal Spirit never found his stride but still finished third.
Odds On Monetary, a daughter of Huntsville-All On Top Hanover picked up her second Sire Stake win for trainer Travis Alexander.
In the $20,000 Excelsior divisions, Grazia (Huntsville-Ramalama), Long Shore (American Ideal-Butchie Beach) and Bueckers (American Ideal-Finnish Your Way) notched victories.
