Hightstown, NJ – Adios-bound filly pacer Loua Dipa returned to the No. 1 spot in the Week 5 edition of the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll released Wednesday (July 15) following her victory in this past Saturday’s (July 11) Grade 3 Jerry Silverman Memorial at the Meadowlands.
Loua Dipa, who was No. 1 in Week 3 and no lower than No. 2 in the other weeks, won the Silverman Memorial, for sophomore filly pacers, in 1:48 to set the stakes record and equal the divisional track record. She received 17 of 35 first-place votes.
Last week’s No. 1, Miki And Minnie, dropped to fourth after a third-place finish in the Grade 2 Dorothy Haughton Memorial, which was won by her stablemate, Twin B Joe Fresh. With that victory, Twin B Joe Fresh jumped up to No. 9 in rankings and was one of two newcomers to the Top 10.
Grade 1 Meadowlands Pace winner Brandon Blvd and Grade 1 Hambletonian Maturity champ On To Norway both moved up one position, to second and third, respectively, behind Loua Dipa. Odds On Mr Mamba, who was idle, completed the top five. His position was unchanged from last week. Brandon Blvd received 11 first-place votes while On To Norway got five and Miki And Minnie and Odds On Mr Mamba each got one.
Apex, who won a division of the Grade 3 Stanley Dancer Memorial, vaulted from No. 10 to sixth in the rankings. He was followed by Hambletonian Maturity runner-up Super Chapter and Endurance, who captured the other Dancer division and became the other Top 10 newcomer. Ervin Hanover, who was eighth in the Grade 2 William R. Haughton Memorial, fell from No. 6 to No. 10.
Bourbonista S, who was idle, and Spencer Hanover, who made a break in a division of the Stanley Dancer, dropped out of the Top 10.
The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, which will continue weekly on Wednesdays through the Grand Circuit season, does not determine year-end awards. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year, and Horse of the Year.
