Vernon, NY – Little Town Road (Aaron Byron) captures the $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 24).
Oh Brother (John MacDonald) took the lead and led to the quarter in :27.0. Civilian Drone (Kyle Swift) came first-up and took control to the half in :56.1. Chapvious (Leon Bailey) challenged for the lead as they went around the final turn. Civilian Drone was first to three quarters in 1:25.3.
As they reached the stretch Little Town Road ($6.36) made her move going three-wide. She wrestled the lead away from second place finisher Civilian Drone to win in 1:54.3. Tiktok Roy (Jimmy Whittemore) came up to finish third.
Little Town Road is a 5-year-old mare by Fordham Road. She is trained by Bryson Dunning for owners Howard and Joshua Kaufman. It was her fifth win this season. She now has 23 career victories.
Leon Bailey had a driving grand slam. He was first with Purpose Blue Chip, Seveallisto, Jack’s Boy, and Woodside Gabe. Chris Long had a driving double. Joe Sansone had a training double.
