Vernon, NY — Humble A (Chris Long) charged late and hung on to win the $8,500 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday (Aug. 1).
Primo Uomo (Jeff Gregory) led the quarter in :26.2. He slowed the pace down with a :29.3 second quarter and was first to the half in :56. He showed the way to three quarters in 1:24.1.
As they entered the stretch, third-place finisher Natameri (Jacquavyian Carter) popped out of the pocket and challenged for the lead. Humble A ($11.10) made his move three-wide, taking a short lead and hold off the streaking second-place finisher Bluesville (Ron Harp) to win in 1:51.4.
Humble A is 6-year-old gelding by American Ideal. He is owned by William Hartt and trained by Melissa Beckwith. It was his seventh win this season and his 24th career victory.
Dylan Huckabone-Miller had a driving triple. Chris Long had a driving double.
