Paris – Idao de Tillard, with Clement Duvaldestin in the sulky, was the heavy favorite in the mile race Criterium de Vitesse de Basse-Normandie at the track in Argentan and won with ease.
After the record-setting race at Enghien, where Idao de Tillard won in 1:49.2 for Theo Duvaldestin, older brother Clement was back in the sulky at the track in Argentan.
After 500 meters of racing, Clement Duvaldestin sent the two-time Prix d’Amérique winner to the lead, and from there the pair cruised to victory in a new track and race record of 1:51.1. The previous record, 1:51.2, set by Hohneck last year.
It was Idao de Tillard’s third start and third victory since his appearance in the Elitloppet in Stockholm on May 31.
In Sweden, 10-year-old Don Fanucci Zet, driven by Ôrjan Kihlström, showed that for him age is just a number.
Don Fanucci Zet led from start to finish and won Jämtlands Stora Pris convincingly, earning the $65,000 first prize ahead of Global Etalon with Carl Johan Jepson and Kuiper with Daniel Redén.
Don Fanucci Zet is trained by Daniel Redén, who also trained the winners of the previous three editions — all with Kihlström in the sulky.
