Monticello, NY – The reigning queen of her division Cowboy Candy remained unbeaten after taking her spilt of $52,500 New York Sire Stake on Monday (Aug. 10) in 1:54.3, one tick off the track record and extended her winning streak to 5.
The divisional leader Cowboy Candy, scored from post 5, the already short field of 5 was whittled even more with the late scratch of Too Pink to Pass. Cowboy Candy causally made her way to the top and set the tone with a quarter of :27.2 & :56.3 followed by Phast Phyllis (L. Bailey) Positions remained unchanged until the 5/8 maker when (Clear Choice) B. Boyd took aim on the leader to force the issue and the tempo, they hit the next panel in 1:26.1. Turning for home Jordan Stratton was confident and still and went on for the 3-length win in 1:54.3 – $2.46, LQ :28.2. Phast Phyllis was second followed by Huntsville Honey (M. Kakaley). With the win Cowboy Candy pushed her season bank roll to $151,200, the daughter of So Surreal – Caviart Elana is of trained by Aaron Lambert for owners Chain Lightning Stable LLC of Beach Haven, NJ.
The second heat was a 5-horse contest worth $52,500 that saw Annie O and Leon Bailey go wire to wire to a 7-length score in 1:55.2 – $6.72 for her second consecutive Sire Stakes win. Maxina (G. Merton) sat the 2 hole throughout the mile and finished second despite throwing in extra steps throughout the mile. Win Me Over (B. Boyd) was third. Annie O is sired by Huntsville – Rapunzel Blue Chip and is trained by Andrew Stafford.
The 9-race card also had 3 heats of the Excelsior Stakes that saw the 1/9 favorite Prop Bet extend her win streak to 3 straight, the American Ideal – Courage Bet filly went wire to wire in a 3-length score in 1:56.2 -$2.10 with Matt Kakaley handling the driving chores for trainer Travis Alexander for owners Fiddlers Creek Stable LLC.
Where is the Love (L. Tritton) earned her first lifetime win in 1:55.4 in dramatic fashion, scoring a 13-length romp over a field of 6. Linda Toscano trains the offspring of Huntsville – Itzapoloti. The final heat saw the divisional leader Spider Claire who was content to sit a gapped fourth until the half. Down the backside the So Surreal – Notagin filly exploded out of the hole and began tracking and overtaking Bellissimiabluechip (G. Merton) for an easy 3 length winner with Matt Kakaley in the bike for trainer Paul Roy
