The Cardinal and Violet stakes for 2-year-olds will be held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m. Purse estimates are $44,000 which will be split among divisions. Entry fees are $150.
If needed, elimination races for aged horses for the Day of Champions will also be held with a purse of $5,000. If 10 or fewer horses are entered into an aged event, no elimination or prep race will be held. Entry fees for elimination races/aged finals are $200.
Qualifiers will also be held with a minimum fee to cover expenses. Rain date for these races is September 17th.
The Day of Champions races will be held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. Purse estimates for aged finals are $12,000. Purse estimates for 2 and 3-year-old finals are $56,000 (if consolations held in all classes). If consolations are not used in all classes, there will be a purse increase for the finals. The horses with the top ten point totals entered in the DOC shall qualify for the championship final (the horse in the 10 hole will start in the back tier). If there is a tie in points for the final, this will be drawn by lot. Horses that have earned sufficient points to compete in the final shall not be eligible for the consolation. Consolation races will be held provided a minimum of five horses are entered. Consolation races have an estimated purse of $12,000. Horses must have a minimum of one point to compete in the consolation.
In all DOC finals and consolations, each horse finishing 6th through last shall receive two percent of the purse. The remainder of the purse shall be divided 50% – 25% – 12% – 8% – 5% for the horses finishing 1st through 5th. Horses must start to receive purse money.
If any unforeseen circumstances occur regarding these races, the Illinois Department of Agriculture reserves the right to handle those decisions. Rain date for these races is September 28th.
