Vernon, NY – Big Al M and driver Chris Long won the $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (Aug. 28).

Tiktok Roy (driven by Jimmy Whittemore) held the early advantage, but Big Al M took control just before hitting the quarter first in :27.2. He used a :28.2 second quarter to be first to the half in :55.4. Delayed Hanover (Jeff Gregory) went on the chase as they headed around the final turn. Big Al M led to three-quarters in 1:24.2.
As they reached the stretch, Big Al M put on the after burners and won easily in 1:53.4. Forty G’s (Roman Lopez) fired late to finish second. What A Mission (Michael Miller) was third.
Big Al M is an 8-year-old gelding by Anders Bluestone. He is owned and trained by Zach Vickerson. It was his sixth win this season and his 38th career victory. He paid $3.54 to win.
Chris Long had a driving triple.
