Vernon, NY – Driver Chris Long took five pacers to the winner’s circle at Vernon Downs on Saturday (Aug. 29).

Long got his wins with Merrow, Wonka Bar, Seaside Star, Bereaved Hanover, and JK McFlirt.
Digging For Gold, driven by Jimmy Whittemore, captured the $8,000 featured Open Pace II.
Sling Shock (driven by Long) was put on the point and led to the quarter in :26.3. He used a :28.2 second quarter to be first to the half in :55 and controlled things to three-quarters in 1:22.3.
As they reached the stretch, Digging For Gold made his move charging right on by to win in a lifetime best of 1:50.2. War Of Will (Frank Affrunti) used a late move to finish second. Gold Star Sven (Steeven Genois) got third money.
Digging For Gold is a 4-year-old gelding by Huntsville. He is owned by trainer George Ducharme along with Megan Moschgat, and David and Jim Winske. It was his second win this season and his 14th career victory.
Affrunti had a driving double.
