Northfield, OH – The trio of Kandy Sweet, driver Ryan Deaton and trainer Cory Kreiser teamed up and found the winner’s circle again in the Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association feature at Northfield Park on Monday (Aug. 31).
For the second week in a row, this trio overcame the second-tier 9 post to score by a resounding 7-1/2 lengths, stopping the timer in 1:56.1, a seasonal best for the 9-year-old daughter of Team Six.
Left in Kandy Sweet’s wake was Mister Sweet, handled by Terry DiCicco, with Whiskey Finish, driven by Madison Angus, finishing third.
B Medithree finished fourth for Joseph Kramp, edging out Big Bad Caviar and Joseph Yoder, the latter picking up the nickel.
As the wings folded, Big Bad Caviar used the inside post to outrush the field with Kandy Sweet on Yoder’s helmet through an opening quarter of :28 with Mister Sweet third.
After a :58 half, once they straightened away on the backside, Deaton chirped a couple of times and Kandy Sweet responded with a brush completing her :28.4 third panel and began stretching her daylight lead through her :29.1 finale.
In a post-race interview, Deaton said, “Well, what can I tell you; she’s very sharp these days.
“It was a bit tight around the opening turn, but we worked out the garden trip from the second tier, and it worked out well.
“On the backside, I asked and she answered and she had plenty left at the end.
“She made me look. Real good!”
For Kandy Sweet, it was her fifth win of the season in 27 starts, vaulting her 2026 bounty to $32,681 and $412,885 lifetime on the strength of her 39 career wins.
The Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association is comprised of drivers who donate all of their earnings competing in these GLADA events for charitable causes, such as after-care for retired horses and training horses for second careers in therapeutic ways to benefit those in need ages 2 to 92.
