Anderson, IN – Determined to get back to the winner’s circle, Ponda Jet piloted by Kyle Wilfong for trainer Jay Hochstetler soared in a gritty finish to take home the $22,000 Open Trot in the Jim Wilson Memorial at Harrah’s Hoosier Park on Saturday (Oct. 3).

Receiving clearance out of the wings, Ponda Jet soared out of post two while Finite (Trace Tetrick) took off for the early lead in :27.1. Ponda Jet transitioned to the outside on the turn taking the crown back through the half-mile marker in :56.4. In control of the tempo, Ponda Jet stayed in comfortable territory to the final quarter turn in 1:25.3. Finite primed for a rematch was at Ponda Jets heels. Ponda Jet was not willing to be denied flying through the wire in 1:52.4 by a quarter length. Finite settled for second, while Cs-Flying Co-Pilot (Brandon Bates) got up for third.
Owned by Connie Hochstetler, Robert Buddig and Allen Schwartz, Ponda Jet secured his first win since July 25th for his sixth of the season. The Dover Dan gelding, Ponda Jet increased his lifetime earnings to $888,912.
In race eight, Lyin’ Eyes driven by Joey Putnam won her second straight $22,000 Fillies/Mares Open Pace for trainer Joe Putnam.
Leaving from post five, Lyin’ Eyes hunkered in to stay covered behind the leader Goo Goo Won (Kyle Wilfong) through the opening chapter in :27.0. With none of the pacers making a move, the field saw no change from the opening quarter to the halfway mark in :56.3.

Reason to Shine A was the first to react before stalling on the turn in fourth, while Goo Goo Won raced to three-quarters in 1:25 with Lyin’ Eyes poised to strike from the pocket. Lyin’ Eyes accelerated off the back of the leader in the stretch smashing the wire in 1:52.0 by three-quarters of a length. Goo Goo Won held on for third as Can’touchthese (Marcus Miller) rallied late for third.
Lyin’ Eyes earned her fourth win of the year, boosting her lifetime earnings to $553,521. The Odds On Equuleus out of Miswave Hanover mare is owned by JP Racing LLC, Joey Putnam and Crazy Parrot Farm LLC.
