Northfield, OH – The Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association (GLADA) continued its series on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at Northfield Park and Magical Muscle Man, driven by Larry Ferrari, proved much the best, scoring by open lengths in 1:57.3.
The 8-year-old son of Muscle Hill scored by 8-1/4 lengths over Whiskey Finish, handled by Madison Angus, a half-length better than Sadodaka, teamed with Don Sherman, and Supreme Rockette, with Susan Miller in the sulky, who finished in a dead-heat for show honors.
Manhattanup No Ice picked up the final award for Edward Miller.
On a perfect night for racing, as the wings opened, Whiskey Finish was away alertly from the inside post with Sadodaka and Magical Muscle Man as the field went through opening panels of :28.1 and :57.3.
The action picked up “heatedly” during the third panel as Magical Muscle Man began a :29.2 brush from third to engage the leader and stuck his nose in front approaching the three-quarters in 1:27.3 and then sprinted clear from there, widening his lead with every stride to the wire.
In a post-race interview, driver Larry Ferrari said, “When I asked the ‘Muscle Man’ to rock and roll, he responded like the very good horse he is. I was really happy with his performance tonight!”
Trained by Cory Kreiser for owners Daniel Schrock and Lucinda Belcher, this was the second straight win for Magical Muscle Man and boosted his bounty to $13,000 in a lightly raced campaign of only seven starts this semester, leaving him a “ns” short of $400,000 in lifetime earnings—now at $398,829. This was his milestone 25th career win, as well.
For Ferrari, it was his first win of the season and 390th career win in 40-plus years of action, with victories as far away in Europe in International competition.
The other GLADA event was declared “no contest” with refunds for the bettors as a mix-up halfway through the mile resulted when driver Madison Angus got caught in confusion as her Game On Girls got tangled with Kandy Sweet, driven by Noah Newman, with Angus thrown onto the track sustaining what was said to be ankle injuries.
The remainder of the Northfield racing program was continued without incident.
GLADA is one of several amateur driving clubs throughout North America where members donate 100% of their earnings in these events to local and national charitable organizations throughout North America.
