Carol Dauplaise, 77, dies

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — Carol Dauplaise, 77, a USTA member and the mother of trainer/driver Jeff Dauplaise and widow of the late trainer/driver Norman Dauplaise, died in Midtown Manhattan on Monday (Feb. 29) after she was struck by a livery cab.

Mrs. Dauplaise had been a leader in fashion/trend jewelry for the past 35 years and had been in the jewelry industry for more than 50 years. She began her career in the jewelry business as a receptionist and worked her way up the ladder to become president of the company. With a mix of guts, experience and determination, she left her job and set out on her own to start her company in 1978 with just one salesperson and a design assistant. Today, the company, including her two grown sons, employs more than 50 people in New York alone, with factories all over the world.

She was a strong, vital and independent woman. She was a force to be reckoned with and possessed a work ethic bar none.

The love of her life, Norman Dauplaise, died in 2003 as a result of esophageal cancer. She fought this with him to the bitter end and would have done anything to have assured a full recovery. She would be so proud to know that we were all helping to stamp out this awful disease.

She is survived by her children, Richard and Debra, Jeffrey and Aimee; and all of her grandchildren, Nicole, Stephanie, Paige, Dean and Jake; and the rest of her loving family and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday (March 4) at 11:30 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home, 1076 Madison Ave., between 80th & 81st Streets, New York, NY 10028.

A Celebration of Life will follow at The Carlyle Hotel, 34 East 76th Street, between Madison & Park Avenues, New York, NY 10021.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering.
