Rosecroft readies for Fall Meet opener Saturday night

from Rosecroft Raceway

Fort Washington, MD — Rosecroft Raceway kicks off its 29-night fall race meet this Saturday (Sept. 14) with a 12-race card. First race post time is 7:25 p.m.

New Racing Secretary Peter Hanley was pleased with the response thus far from the horsemen in the region.

“We had eight qualifying races this past Tuesday and nearly 130 entries for our first two race cards which shows horsemen are eager to get back to racing at Rosecroft,” Hanley said. “The track is in great shape and with purses averaging nearly $60,000 per night there should be some great racing this fall.”

The driving colony will be headed once again by Frank Milby, leading driver at Rosecroft since its reopening in 2011 with 132 victories. Milby will be quite busy Saturday evening, driving in each of the 12 races, with four of those mounts being the morning line favorite.

Six of the 12 races opening night will be exclusively for Maryland preferred horses. Horses owned or trained by Maryland residents or bred/sired in the state of Maryland receive entry preferences in all races conducted at Rosecroft and will race for a 20 percent purse bonus. Last spring nearly 75 percent of the horses racing at Rosecroft qualified under the Maryland preferred criteria.

Live racing will be conducted every Tuesday and Saturday evening through Dec. 21. Full card simulcasting on Standardbred and Thoroughbred races from around the country is available seven days a week. Admission and parking are free every day.
