San Pail wins another qualifier

from Standardbred Canada

Mississauga, ON — San Pail, the 2011 Horse of the Year in both Canada and the United States, continued to gear up for his seasonal pari-mutuel debut during Mohawk Racetrack’s qualifying session on Wednesday (Sept. 11) at the Campbellville oval.

With Randy Waples in the racebike, San Pail lined up in post five for race five, which featured a field of seven.

Waples gave the 9-year-old a conservative start, as he worked him into the four-hole and watched Vimy Ridge (driven by Scott Zeron) carve the opening quarter in :28.2, the half in :58 and the three quarters in 1:27.2.

San Pail was first-up along the final turn and utilized a :28.2 final quarter to reel in the tempo setter. The gelded son of San Pellegrino won by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:56.2 over the fast track.
