Drivers race highlights Linn County Fair

Central City, IA — A race for drivers who have not won 10 races will be featured at the Linn County Fair in Central City, Iowa, on Monday (July 2). Five entrants, ranging in age from 19 to 65, will compete. Two will be making their driving debut.

Sierra Philipp, 19, will be making her first career start with the seasoned pacer Silver D Moon. The iron tough gelding has started 300 times and won $631,855. Silver D Moon is owned by her aunt, Jodi Siamis.

Also making her debut is 48-year-old Dena Black from Dallas, Texas, driving Starters Showboat who has a record of 2:01.2.

Another Texan, Victor Allen from Longview, will compete with his own horse, Hitailit p,1:53.4. Allen is in his second year of racing.

First year driver Keevyn Kilburg will be looking for win number one. He has driven five races with one second and two thirds. He is up behind My Tractors Sexy, 1:54.

The veteran of the group is 65-year-old veterinarian Dr. Steve Renard of Hamilton, Ill. He has four wins from 55 races since 2003. He will drive his own homebred pacing mare, Marginal, 2:06.

The Iowa Harness Horsemen’s Association is sponsoring two “Drivers” races this year to encourage new participants in the sport.
