Marlborough’s role in harness racing aired on cable show

by Jack Ginnetti

Marlborough, MA — Marlborough’s cable outlet (WMCT-TV) is airing a segment on the city’s role in harness racing.

The in-depth presentation on “Marlborough Magazine” features interviews with Jack Ginnetti, Robert Lieberman and John Hogan and views of Plainridge Racecourse.

Filming was done several months ago at Plainridge and the segment was put together by Dan Guindon, cable trust director.

Ginnetti spoke of his 50 years of writing about the sport and his 25-plus years as president of the U.S. Harnes Writers’ New England chapter.

Lieberman commented about the caring of race horses every day of the year. The Norwood, Mass., product is assistant paddock judge at Plainridge and suceeded Ginnetti as chapter president.

Hogan, who is closing in on 4,700 career wins, spoke of his start in harness racing. Hogan is credited with being New England’s finest driver during his on-going career by Robert Temple, the chapter historian and author of three books.

At 68, Hogan shows no signs of slowing down and recently found the winner’s circle twice with Beauclaire Bono, owned by Archie and Kathleen McNeil.
