Russell Dunn, 88, dies

Columbus, OH — Russell Eugene Dunn, 88, of Honesdale, Pa., died Jan. 20, 2012, at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale.

Born on Nov. 20, 1923, in Seelyville, he was the son of the late Lewis and Laura Hoey Dunn.

Mr. Dunn owned and operated Russ Dunn Stables, training, driving and owning Standardbreds. He traveled all over the country training and racing horses, including Saratoga, Pocono Downs, Monticello Raceway and Vernon Downs. He also traveled to many county fairs to race and spent a lot of time at the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association and a former member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Along with training and racing his horses, Mr. Dunn also enjoyed rebuilding tractors.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Grace V. Roe; daughters, Vicki (John) Wetmore, Mary Lisa Gumble and Laurie Ann Hentz; sisters-in-law, Edna and Julia; grandchildren, Bradley (fiancé Sandra VanBlarcom), Chandra (Terry) Dickison, Michael (Shelly) O’Neill, Matthew (Katrina) O’Neill, Marc O’Neill (companion Erin Valenza), Jason Gumble, Christopher Hentz (companion Wendy) and Ashley Hack (companion CJ); great-grandchildren Gage Dickison, Easton Dickison and Faustin O’Neill; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Ted; and brothers Alfred, Robert and Carl.
