Dover, DE — James T. “Jim” Case, first president of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association, who passed away recently, will be honored by family and friends with a Celebration of Life on Saturday (Oct. 22) from 2-4 p.m. at the Magnolia Church Fellowship Hall near Dover.

Mr. Case, a longtime Delaware horseman, passed away at age 81 on Sept 3 after retiring due to failing health in 2009.

Following discharge from the Army, he continued his lifelong love of horses, first as a hobby, then after purchasing a yearling filly, Afton Love, his professional career began. Mr. Case spent a half-century training, driving and breeding Standardbreds which he raced under the High Hope Stable name. One of his early assistants was a young George Teague, Jr.

Mr. Case served on the board of the Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association and for six years was its president, representing at the time, both Delaware and Maryland horsemen. In 1997, with the inception of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association, the popular Mr. Case became president.
