Maire Walsh Froelich, 90, dies

Columbus, OH — Maire Walsh Froelich, 90, of Ft Lauderdale, Fla., and Spring Lake, N.J., died June 7, 2011.

She and her late husband, Dr. Jerome J. Froelich, were long time Standardbred owners and breeders. Their horses competed in Florida, Michigan, New York, and New Jersey, racing under the Happy F Farm name. They were patrons of trainers Skip Lewis, the late Harold Fisher and Jim Kennedy.

Some of the horses they campaigned and bred were the Michigan bred Dreamy Relco p,3,2:02.3f ($55,241), the dam of horses who won nearly $450,000; the tough race mare Cloverleaf Gladys p,4,1:59.3h ($104,450), the dam of horses who won more than $1.18 million; and Mayflower Madam p,3,1:56.2 ($154,872), the dam of horses who won more than $550,000.

The wake will be held at Preston Funeral Home in South Orange, N.J., on Friday, June 10, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St Joseph’s Church in Maplewood, N.J., on Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m.
