Dr. Stephen Perrine Dey II, 74, dies

Manalapan, NJ — Dr. Stephen Perrine Dey II, 74, died Feb. 28, 2011.

Dr. Dey, a lifelong resident of Allentown, N.J., and an equine veterinarian for more than four decades, was based at his family’s 500-acre Heritage Hill Farm, one of the founding farms of the New Jersey Sire Stakes program.

Heritage Hill was honored as the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey’s Breeder of the Year in 2009.

President of the Horse Park of New Jersey, Dr. Dey was one of the Park’s founding members. He served on the Equine Advisory Board of New Jersey, the Upper Freehold Township Board of Health and the New Jersey State Board of Agriculture, and was presented with the New Jersey Distinguished Service Award in 2007. He held a leadership role with the Allentown Presbyterian Church.

He continued to work on the family farm, where he lived with his wife, Elizabeth S. (Liz) Dey, while the burdens of the veterinarian practice fell to his two sons, Dr. Stephen P. Dey III, an SBOANJ director, and Dr. Greg Dey.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m on Saturday (March 5) at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High Street, Allentown. Calling is from 4-9 p.m. on Friday (March 4) at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 South Main Street, Allentown.
