Indiana Sires Stakes finals headline Indiana Downs Saturday program

from Indiana Downs

Shelbyville, IN — A quartet of Indiana Sires Stakes finals for freshman trotters and pacers will be decided at Indiana Downs on Saturday (Oct. 23) with $800,000 in purses up for grabs. The four championship races will signal the conclusion of ISS action for 2010, as well as help determine divisional honors in each 2-year-old category.

The first final of the evening, slated as the third race, is the $200,000 final for 2-year-old trotting fillies. A full field of 10 will go to the post, with first series winner Say Your ABC’s starting from the second tier. Victorious in seven of 15 starts, the ABC Garland filly is owned by breeder Lynn Wilfong. Sam Widger will drive the filly for trainer Brett Wilfong.

Dan Shetler will send out ABC Garland fillies ABC Easter and Lakeview Fest. ABC Easter, owned by Shetler and Crystal Ball Stables, finished second to Say Your ABC’s in the first $200,000 final. The five-time winner has drawn post three, while Lakeview Fest will start from post position six.

Above The Bar filly Bar Lady will line up fourth for trainer Steve Carter, while Deliteful Debbie, coming off a narrow win in the last preliminary leg for trainer Bobby Brower, will start from the rail.

The night’s sixth race looks to be a wide open affair as a field of 10 freshman trotting colts will battle it out in the $200,000 final. Dream Kid, C-O-To Bluegrass and Uncle Freddie will attempt to join Bluebird Elian as Indiana Sires Stakes finals winners in 2010. The Ron Burke-trained Dream Kid, from the first crop of Cincinnati Kid, raced second in the first $200,000 final. The colt has yet to finish off the board in 11 career starts, winning six times. He will start from post three for Ricky Macomber Jr.

C-O-To Bluegrass looks to erase a disappointing seventh-place finish in the first series finale. Trained and driven by Peter Wrenn, the ABC Garland gelding has won twice in ISS action since the final, and will line up fourth behind the gate Saturday night. Uncle Freddie will start from the second tier for trainer John Merkel. The Danish Delight 2-year-old has come on as of late. With Widger in the bike for the last two starts, Uncle Freddie has registered a win and second-place finish. The Erv Miller-trained Bluebird Elian will start from post five. Marcus Miller is set to drive.

The $200,000 Indiana Sires Stakes final for 2-year-old pacing fillies also looks to be a competitive contest. Dollys Joy, already crowned an Indiana Sires Stakes finals winner earlier in the Indiana Downs meet, will try to complete the sweep Saturday. The Pilgrims Punch filly, driven by Widger, will start from the second tier for trainer and breeder Brian Stephens, who co-owns the filly with his father, Charles.

Ron’s Blue Angel and Radar Contact each enter Saturday’s eighth race with three-race winning streaks. Broken equipment kept Ron’s Blue Angel from contending in the first series final, but since then the Panspacificflight filly has raced well for owners L J Stone and Ron Pearson, who also serves as trainer. Driven by Josh Sutton, the freshman took her mark the next time out with a 1:54.3 performance, and in each of her last two victories she won by more than three lengths. Ron’s Blue Angel will start from post four, while Radar Contact has drawn post six. The Dontgetinmyway filly has put together three straight after a third-place finish in the consolation. Shetler, who has driven Radar Contact during her current streak, will guide the filly, owned by Dean Ehrgott and trainer Charles Stillings.

Several starters have a shot at victory in the $200,000 ISS final for freshman pacing colts at Indiana Downs. Flight Elal has registered a win and two second-place finishes since scoring the victory in the first $200,000 final. The Panspacificflight gelding, trained by Jim Dailey, will start from post seven for owners and breeders Pacey Mindlin and Kenneth Cohen.

Lost Jewels, half of a Burke Racing Stable entry, will start to his outside in post eight. The Royal Art gelding has defeated Flight Elal the last two times out and shows a mark of 1:53.1. A five-time winner this season, Lost Jewels is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Frank Baldachino and Earl Smith. Starven Darven, winner of the first series consolation, is entering Saturday’s 10th race off two straight wins in ISS preliminary action. The His Mattjesty colt will line up in post position two for Peter Wrenn. Whitefish Falls gelding Bay Fishen Doc, twice a winner in his last three starts, could also prove a factor. Sam Widger will guide the 2-year-old from post five.
