PA Fair Report: Sophomore trotters in action in Meadville

Meadville, PA — The third day of action (August 25) at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Meadville, Pennsylvania featured sophomore trotters in seven stake events.

Whisk Hanover was a 2:08 winner in the first division of the 3-year-old filly trot.

Whisk Hanover, a Cantab Hall filly, captured the first PA Sire Stake 3-year-old filly trot division, covering the mile in 2:08 for driver Al Manke. Jim Beluscak and Bob Carson own the winner, while Marty Wollam trains.

In the second division, Caviar’s Dancer powered to the lead past the half-mile pole and went on to a 2:07 win for driver David Brickell. Owned by trainer Bob and Barb Krenitsky, Caviar’s Dancer is now 6-for-16 on the season.

The final filly trot resulted in an upset win for Eagle Say, as the SJ’s Photo filly took a new lifetime mark with a 2:06.1 effort. Owned by Bill Kreutzer and Eileen Lineweaver, Eagle Say is trained by Joyce Lineweaver and was driven by her father, Winston.

Two PASS colt trotting stakes were next, with victories earned by Tommaso (Tom Ridge) and Tag The Lady (Tagliabue).

Tommaso, driven by Roger Hammer for the Dunn Stable and trainer Boots Dunn, was a 2:04.4 winner, getting up in the final stride by less than a nose over Rock This Hall, an SJ’s Photo colt driven by Chas Norris.

Tag The Lady gave the combination of Manke and Wollam their second win of the day. Patricia Wollam, Charles Zeune and Peggy Sheehan own Tag The Lady, a 2:03.2 winner.

The day’s remaining stakes were Quaker trotting events, and Zoom A Rail took a pocket trip and scored in 2:09.1 in the first division. Chris Shaw drove for owner/trainer Elbert Kohler, who shipped in from New York with the Donerail gelding.

In the second division, Fortune Caviar (SJ’s Caviar) picked up his first career win, trotting in 2:10.1 for owner/trainer/driver Bill Mt Pleasant.

In overnight action, Quickpop was a 2:06.4 winner for Shaw, while Tin Tin won in 2:08.3 for driver George Heit.
