RCI Model Rules Committee sets agenda for meeting

Lexington, KY — The Model Rules Committee of Racing Commissioners International (RCI) will hold its next meeting at 9:00 a.m., Friday, August 1, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in the Library of the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame.

The Committee, chaired by Larry Eliason of South Dakota, will consider recommendations from the Jockey Club’s Welfare and Safety Committee pertaining to further limitations on toe grabs in thoroughbred racing and a proposed safety riding crop rule.

The committee will also consider proposed changes in model claiming rules to require that claims be voided under certain conditions and circumstances as well as a requirement that there be a continuing education requirement for trainers and other racing licensees.

The text of proposed model rules are posted on the RCI Web site, www.arci.com and comments from interested individuals and organizations are encouraged.
