New Kent, VA — Colonial Downs will open its seventh annual harness meet on Friday with a 10 race card featuring full fields and four divisions of the opening leg of the VHHA Trot late closing series. Friday’s card drew 92 entries for the 10 races. There will be three full ten-horse fields and the smallest field size is eight. The opening leg of the VHHA Trot drew 37 entries and will be run in four divisions. Touchstone is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the first division on the strength of a win last out in a conditioned trot at Freehold. Trainer James Marohn, Jr. will drive Touchstone. The second division will feature track record holder Little Man Fred. The seven-year-old was victorious last out in a Billings series event under the direction of local horse owner and amateur driver Dr. Scott Woogen. Trainer Dan O’Mara will resume the driving duties on Friday. The third division is headlined by Giant Thunder, a 10-year-old dropping down from open company at Yonkers for trainer-driver Donald Dancer. Giant Thunder is the 7-2 morning line co-favorite. HR’s Miller Gold will likely go favored in the fourth division of the VHHA Trot. The three-year-old gelding is trained and will be driven by perennial Colonial force Roger Hammer. The first 1,000 paid admissions on Friday will receive a free Colonial Downs windbreaker. Colonial Downs will continue through November 22 on a Friday through Monday schedule. Post time is 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Monday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. For more information call (804) 966-RACE or visit www.colonialdowns.com.
