Nathan My Book was able to win from an outside post — and win big
Tony L. And Norma J. Raber’s Nathan My Boy overcame post position #7 and cruised to a 5 ¼ length victory in the third division of the $92,415 Ohio Breeders Championship for two-year-old colt trotters in Monday’s action from the Delaware County (OH) Fairgrounds. Jeff Fout gunned Nathan My Boy off of the gate and cleared the field of seven just past the ¼ mile mark and drew away from Trojan Hero (Richard Schaut) and Tiger Laser (Jeff Smith). The winning time of 1:59 4/5 established a new track record and national season’s record for freshman gelding trotters.
Haste (Sam Noble III) came from off the pace to score a win in the second division of the OBC in 2:01 2/5. Trot Like Dad (Bob Harper) set the early fractions of :28 3/5, :59 3/5 and 1:29 4/5. Noble sent Haste three wide down the backstrech and cleared the field by the top of the stretch and held off Look Like Gene (Kenny Kidd) by three parts of a length. Mark Winters of Sabina, Ohio owns and trains the gelded son of Inquirer.
The first $30,805 divison went to Whosethemaster (Brett Miller) in 2:02 2/5. With the win, the gelded son of Master Lavec raised his seasonal earnings to $41,957 for Umholtz Racing Stable, Kenny Sports Corp., Greg Martin and Michael Uhrin of Arizona and Ohio.
