Loyal Opposition equaled the world record for pacing mares with a mile in 1:48.4 in the Lady Libery Final.
Loyal Opposition’s time matched the 1:48.4 miles of Frightening P [June 21, 2002 at the Meadowlands] and Carolina Sunshine [June 14, 2003 at Woodbine]. The clocking also set a Lady Liberty stakes record and track record for four-year-old pacing mares.
Loyal Opposition [$11.60, $5.00, $4.40], driven by George Brennan and trained by Erv Miller, won by three lengths over Burning Point [$4.20, $4.00]. It was three and three-quarter lengths to Sure Sign [$13.20] in third.
“I didn’t know much about her,” said Brennan, driving the four-year-old daughter of Cole Muffler for the first time. “Erv [trainer Erv Miller] called and said she’s a real nice mare and drive her like I want. She was really good. She ranks right up there [with the best mares]. It’s a pleasure to drive her.”
Loyal Opposition had primarily campaigned in the Midwest, finishing in the money in 17of 20 starts last year. She won her Meadowlands debut last week and now has five wins in seven starts this year.
Her career earnings now stand at $1,546,642 for Daniel Waxman of Ancaster, Ontario.
“I expected she raced well,” said Waxman. “I thought if we got a good trip, we’d be right there. I wasn’t sure she could hold on. I was ecstatic. The [record] time was a bonus.”
Loyal Opposition will be pointed toward the Breeders Crown on July 31 and the Golden Girls on August 7, both at the Meadowlands.

Rainbow Blue coasted to victory in one of two New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies in 1:51.1.
In the first of two $31,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies, 1-5 Rainbow Blue [$2.40, $2.10] coasted to a length and a quarter victory over R Burning Desire [$2.10] in 1:51.1.
Economic Clout was third by a length and three-quarters.
There was no show wagering in the second race.
Rainbow Blue, driven by Ron Pierce and trained by George Teague, is now undefeated in all seven starts this year and extended her winning streak to 11. The daughter of Artiscape has now won 13 of 14 career starts. Her only loss was when she finished third by a neck in the $150,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final for two-year-old pacing fillies on July 9, 2003.
“It was the easiest kind of winner,” said Pierce. “She was just beautiful. We floated out of the gate and let Mike [Lachance with Economic Clout] cross over. Then we went back to the top, and she relaxed. She got a nice breather around the back and the last turn.
When I asked her to go, she went and came home in 26.2. She was just perfect.”
“She raced real good tonight,” said Teague. She’s had a real good string of racing luck. She was funny to train and still is funny in the way she trains. She’s a very laid back horse. She’s extremely lazy. I think that makes her a better horse. She really takes it easy on herself. She’s not going to do anything that you don’t make her do.
She has the [$150,000] sire stakes final next week, then the Tarport Hap, Mistletoe Shalee at the Meadowlands, then the Nadia Lobell in Kentucky and then she goes to Canada for the Breeders Crown.
Teague Inc and K&R Racing, both of Houston, Delaware, own the filly who has banked $242,054.
In the second division, the fourth race, Apple Krisp [$6.20, $3.40, $2.80] held off Ted’s Girl [$5.40, $3.60] for a neck victory in 1:49.4, equaling the track record for three-year-old pacing fillies set by Armbro Romance [June 27,1998] and setting a New Jersey Sire Stakes record.
BJ’s Sunset [$4.20] was third by two lengths.
Driven by Cat Manzi and trained by Don Swick, Apple Krisp has now finished in the money in eight of 11 starts this year with three victories to her credit. The daughter of Life Sign races for Royal Wire Products Inc. of North Royalton, Ohio.
