Distaff pacers top Freehold slate

Freehold, NJ — Filly and Mare pacers will be in the spotlight in the featured $14,200 Open Handicap at Freehold Raceway on Friday.

The 2-1 favorite in the morning line is Joseph Muscara’s Time Flies N. The five-year-old daughter of In The Pocket comes into Friday’s main event fresh off an impressive pacesetting win from post seven in last week’s edition of the Filly and Mare Open. All told, Time Flies N has won 17 of her last 30 outings, and a repeat of her last excellent effort could be the recipe for another victory.

Time Flies N has been assigned the outside post eight on the handicap. Stephane Bouchard, who was aboard for last week’s triumph, has been given the return assignment in the sulky by trainer Chris Height.

Serious opposition could come from Nells Bells. In last week’s Open, the four-year-old Dragon’s Lair mare overcame early interference to finish second to Time Flies N in a 1:573 mile. A repeat of that solid performance figures to make her dangerous on Friday.

Trainer Virgil Morgan has named George Brennan to drive. Nells Bells will leave the gate from post seven and will open on the board as the 4-1 second choice in the early line.

Alanis M, Monterey, Awesome Gal, Short Pockets, Pleasing Package A and Tupelo Rose N round out the field for the feature.

Freehold’s 12 race Friday slate will commence with a first post of 12:30 p.m.
