Columbus, OH — Cyclops, a 3-year-old pacing gelding by Dontgetinmyway-Nuke Warm earned his name honestly. He only has one eye, but that hasn’t stopped this colt from doing his job.

Cyclops has earned $14,985 in his career for trainer Jim Dailey.

Cyclops lost his eye when he was only two weeks old. The youngster and his mother got turned out to play for a few hours and when they went to bring him in the accident had already happened.

Cyclops was bred and is owned by Jerry Zosel and is trained by Jim Dailey. The colt was lightly raced at two, only having eight starts, but he earned two wins, a mark of 1:56.2 and a bankroll of $5,085.

His 3-year-old year has started well, with two wins and a third in six starts, a new lifetime best of 1:55.1 and he has already earned $9,900.

Dailey said, “He was good to break, but just like any baby he had good days and bad days. As he got older he never got over the good days and bad days, but he knows his job and he’s consistent.”

Cyclops was in the eighth race on Thursday’s 13-race card at Scioto Downs and started from the five post with driver Greg Grismore. Cyclops didn’t disappoint his connections. Grismore gave him a perfect pocket trip and waited for the super stretch to get up in time. He stopped the timer in 1:56.4 and paced a last quarter in :28.3.

Racing continues on Friday (May 16) and Saturday (May 17) with a 6:30 p.m post time. Saturday is Preakness Day and the live 13-race card will feature the Laverne Hill Memorial Pace for Open Mares with a purse of $50,000. Be sure to get to the track early on Saturday to meet and greet with the leading trainers of Scioto Downs. Virgil Morgan Jr., Scott Mogan and Jim Arledge Jr. will be available for autographs, pictures and questions until 6:15 p.m.
