Alesha Binkley wins Billings Trot at Scioto

Columbus, OH — The C.K.G. Billings Series made a stop at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Thursday (Aug. 8) for a trotting contest for members of the Midwest region. Alesha Binkley, from Washington Court House, Ohio, displayed her considerable talents when she turned back six others with a picture-perfect drive to score a 1:58 victory with Hititoutofthepark.

After settling in the two-hole and smartly allowing Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford and Smart Flight to show the way to the first stanza in a speedy :27.4, Binkley was content to follow the leader. And when Kelly “Sky” Walker moved Security Guard first-up while followed closely by Mego Moss (Gregg “Fast Greggy” Keidel) up the backside, Binkley sat chilly and waited.

As the leaders came off the final turn, it was clear that Walker and Keidel didn’t have enough horse to capitalize. But as Smart Flight’s strides began to shorten, Binkley’s charge made a serious challenge. Just before the camera flashed, Hititoutofthepark got his head in front of Smart Flight and went on to victory. Security Guard was two lengths in arrears, finishing in third place.

It was Binkley’s fifth winning drive and the sixth seasonal victory for the son of Yankee Glide who paid $5.20. He is owned by Trent Stohler Stable, Tim Graber, Benjamin Graber and the Hen-Shaut Stable, and trained by Stohler.
