Alex Spence Jr., 53, dies

Columbus, OH — Alex Spence Jr., 53, died Feb. 5, 2010, after suffering from a long illness.

Mr. Spence, better known as “Big Al,” died after being life flighted to the University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville.

He spent most of his racing career in Ohio with notable horses Porky Brian and Glive in the 1990s, before relocating to Pompano Park in South Florida.

Mr. Spence was a member of the USTA and the First Presbyterian Church of Boyton Beach.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Polly; two daughters, Jennifer Ison and Carly Duvall; and a son, Alex Spence III.

There will be a service in his memory at the First Presbyterian Church of Boyton Beach on Friday, Feb. 12, at 12 noon.
