All systems ‘go’ for Joygo in Pocono feature

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Shipping into The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono for his previous start, Joygo finished a good third at 30-1 off a 30-day layoff. In Tuesday’s (Sept. 6) $15,000 trotting feature at the mountain oval, the 3-year-old Nuncio gelding went off at 1-5 — and rewarded the public’s confidence with a 1:54.3 victory.

George Napolitano Jr. edged Joygo to the outside from third at the :27.3 quarter, but 90-1 pacesetter Awsome Paul put both Joygo and the parked Tranquility K (driven by Anthony Napolitano) back in holes, not wanting to surrender the front through a :56.1 half. Joygo moved outside again nearing a 1:24.4 three-quarters with Tranquility K following him on the far turn. In the stretch, they proved the best pair in the field, with Joygo winning by 1-1/4 lengths.

Joygo, 5-for-12 as a sophomore and 8-for-18 lifetime, is trained by Lance Barber, who also shares ownership with Sonya Renee Barber.

Pocono will now take a break from racing until next Monday (Sept. 11), and will shift to its fall schedule at that time. Racing will take place on Saturday (draw Monday), Monday (draw Tuesday) and Tuesday (draw Wednesday) afternoons at 1:30 p.m; program pages for all Pocono races will be available on the PHHA website.
