Amateur drivers donate to Corbin Community Backpack Program; Track honors Bruce Carpenter, Mayors Razmus and Harrison

Corbin, KY –With Cumberland Run’s inaugural 12-day meet coming to an end Tuesday (Nov. 7), the new harness track in Corbin had a couple of special presentations during Sunday’s (Nov. 5) races on a gorgeous autumn day.

The U.S. Harness Drivers Club donated $2,000 (although the ceremonial check says $1,500) from their purse earnings to the Corbin Community Backpack Program. Amanda Stephens photo.

In addition, Cumberland Run co-managing partners Marc Falcone and Ron Winchell and Cumberland Run/The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland General Manager Henry Graffeo paid tribute Sunday to Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus, Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison and Bruce Carpenter, executive director of the Southern Kentucky Economic Development Agency; with a proclamation of appreciation and “recognition of passion, unconditional commitment, support, and enduring dedicated service.”

“Mayor Razmus, Mayor Harrison and Bruce have been lockstep with us all the way to making Cumberland Run a reality and bringing live horse racing to southeastern Kentucky,” Graffeo said. “It’s been a pleasure working with them and their teams, as it’s been a delight to work with the harness horsemen. This was just the start. I think we all see the possibilities for expanded tourism and entertainment options in Corbin and Williamsburg with Cumberland Run and The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland, and we look forward to being even better in 2024.”

The 12-day Cumberland Run harness meet concludes Tuesday, Nov. 7, with a 1 p.m. first post.
