Another Italian trotter makes headlines

You saw the 4-year-old Italian trotter Zacon Gio winning the International Trot easily Saturday afternoon at Yonkers. But Zacon Bi is not the only top 4-year-old Italian trotter.

On Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13) The Grosser Preis von Deutschland at Bahrenfeld, Hamburg, was won by open lengths by another Italian, Zarenne Faz (sired by Varenne), driven by Rickard N. Skoglund.

Zarenne Fas, who is trained by Jerry Riordan, won the 1-3/8 mile event in 1:56.1f (mile rate). USA-bred Maxus, who finished second, was timed in 1:58.1.

The purse for the winner was $82,500.

At the Treviso track in Italy, the Premio Giuseppe Biasuzzi with a purse for the winner of 50,000 Euro, was won by the 4-year-old mare Zaniah Bi (sired by Equinix Bi) with trainer/driver Alessandro Gozziadoro in 1:54.4f. French trotter Fric du Chene finished second, timed in 1:55.4f.
