Anthony MacDonald on the mic and track record performances at Grand River

Elora, ON — Hot off a winning steer in the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold elims at Flamboro in the afternoon, Anthony MacDonald defied the speed of light (and perhaps a few traffic laws) to arrive at Grand River Raceway in just the nick of time to call race two on the Sept. 21 Fun & Frivolity Friday night card.

Anthony MacDonald called race two on Friday night at Grand River.

MacDonald, of Guelph, Ontario, is the 14th guest announcer of 2012 in the track’s popular From Bike To Mic series.

His animated call charted the course of Sweetsunsetspecial and driver Bill Davis, as the pair stormed to a 10 length win over Designer and Keystone Eliza. Davis also trains the 5-year-old Camluck mare for his wife Laurie Anne Davis and Jeff Elchuk. The win was her fifth from 22 starts this season.

MacDonald’s race call is available here.

The track also hosted eight semi-final divisions of 2-year-olds in their bid to advance to their respective C$100,000 finals of the OSS Grassroots championships at Grand River Raceway on Saturday (Sept. 29).

Two new track records were established.

Trotting filly Princess Lilly was sensational in 1:59.4, replacing the 2:00.1 record set by Standing My Ground on August 15. Ben Baillargeon trains and Les Ecuries Piramidan own the Muscle Mass-Golden Goose miss who is a winner of five from seven and $69,280. Mario Baillargeon was in the bike.

Gotta Secret set a new career best of 1:58.1 in his fourth lifetime win for trainer Richard Moreau and owner Gestion Jean Yves Blais. Sylvain Filion powered the Muscle Mass-Prenup colt to the half-length score. The mark replaces the former record of 1:59 held by Sin To Win since 2008.
