Chester, PA — A field of seven conditioned trotters squared off in the featured event at Harrah’s Philadelphia on a cold and cloudy Thursday afternoon (April 9).
The wagering public placed their support behind Reima Kuisla’s Appomattox (Yannick Gingras). The 6-year-old son of Yankee Glide was coming off a second place finish against Open trotters at the Meadowlands.
At the start, Appomattox fired quickly off the wings, securing the lead before the quarter (:28.1). The 4-year-old Razor Ramone (David Miller) settled in behind, with the race’s lone mare Photosavvy getting away third.
After rating a :29.2 second quarter, Appomattox faced a first over challenge from Photosavvy, but was able to sprint clear in the stretch and win by two lengths, stopping the clock in 1:53.4. Photosavvy was second, while Possessed Fashion (Brett Miller) finished third.
It was the 12th career win for the Ron Burke trainee, with career earnings just under the $500,000 mark. The winner paid $3.40.
