Greenville, OH — Atta Boy Dan (Mike Wilder) used a first-over trip and edged Night Pro (Peter Wrenn) by three-quarters of a length to win the $35,000 Gene Riegle Memorial at the Darke County Fair in Greenville, Ohio.
Defending champion Mykindachip (Dan Noble) overcame post eight and took control of the field of seven in the opening quarter of :27.2. Wilder sent the eventual winner off the rail and pressured Mykindachip past the half in :55.4 and the three-quarters in 1:24. Atta Boy Dan took the lead in the stretch and held off a closing Night Pro in 1:52 to establish a new track and stakes record. Pacesetting Mykindachip faded to third.
The 7-year-old gelded son of Western Terror is conditioned by Ron Burke for the Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.
A new trotting track record was established in the $15,000 Arnie Almahurst Trot when Allgrooveallthetime (Peter Wrenn) cruised to a 7-1/4length victory over Barn Girl (Mike Wilder) in 1:55.2. The 4-year-old Swan For All gelding is owned by Alvin Miller.
